A new supermarket opened up in Maple this past March. There is another location in North York that has been around for ten years that has gotten very mixed reviews. I stumbled on it as I was driving home and since I was feeling peckish stopped and wandered inside. I was not expecting a Russian grocery from the name and on later looking it up on the internet, I found that it had received an Award of Merit last year from the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers. Just be warned, it is rather pricey and all signs inside the store are in Russian. But, whatever bakery delicacy I bought was very good.

Participating in signs, signs

  1. Shopping for groceries when all signs are in Russian must be a new experience.

  2. I’ve never heard of it. Russian signs?! There must be a big population of Russians in Maple.

  3. A little trip abroad without leaving home!

  4. I assume the awards were for the products not the architecture

  5. What a great name for a grocery store. Fine picture of a sign.

  6. That sounds like a different kind of shopping experience – one that may need time to appreciate?

  7. it had all the signs of a “gourmet prices only” establishment from where i’m sitting 🙂

  8. interesting name. awards for groceries, I’ve never seen such an award here.

  9. A Russian grocery store? I’m really intrigued now.

  10. I would have taken this for a different name for Metro or something. It certainly looks similar (and why do supermarkets have so many different names anyway?)

  11. i love the name of this supermarket. but signs in Russian? they’d be alienating the non-Russian-speaking potential customers.

  12. that would be an interesting place to shop!
