In 1994, Ontario Place demolished the much loved Forum and built this [Molson Canadian] Amphitheatre as a semi enclosed concert venue. The Forum featured a rotating stage and seating under a tent like roof with more seating on the grass of the surrounding hills. Many of the concerts were free with admission to the park and offered a more intimate theatre-in-the-round experience than this newer, less appealing but much larger, venue with the ultimately more expensive ticket price. There is still seating on the grass and some chairs ‘under the sky’, but there are no refunds if it rains.

  1. Looks like a wonderful theater and they do add so much to a community! Interesting post for the day and a terrific capture, Lesley! Enjoy your week!

  2. An interesting building, nevertheless, with one end open to the air, although to this Canadian it looks like a beer commercial.

  3. It does look like a gigantic beer commercial … I guess Molson’s had a lot to do with the funding of it. But it also seems like a much needed facility in the community with a large portion that is enclosed.

  4. Such a pity when time marches on and the instituted changes are not necessarily for the better.
Still, at least there is a concert venue.

  5. No, this does not appeal to me… And this replaced the cozy forum where I heard BB King strum Lucille? Oh dear.

  6. Would love to see something here. Open air concerts are wonderful as long as the weather co-operates. 🙂
