Yellow tulips add some colour to the American Embassy. The embassy is not the most beloved of buildings in Ottawa. The glass and steel fortress looking building was built in 1999. There is no setback from the Parliament Hill side of the building, so these little flowers were actually a pleasant surprise. There is another view here.

Yes, it doesn’t have much colour on its own, does it? The tulips help, but tulips don’t last long. At least the glass amid the steel is good for one thing: reflections!

The other view shows this is an imposing structure that reminds me a little of a pyramid at the top. The multi-glass portions and potential for reflections seem to be its saving grace, as are the yellow tulips bordering one side of the building.
Great to see the flowers adding some colour to the commercial building.
Lovely flowers and colors and it is great to see them lightening up an old commercial building. Terrific capture, Lesley! Enjoy your week!

I love yellow tulips so much! They soften the harsh lines of the building somewhat. I would love to see what they have there when the tulip season is over. Great photo!
Great POV! Very well framed.
is the pyramid just a finial or a lighting? i like how you composed this shot.
The contrast of imposing and cold (because made of glass and steel) architecture and mellow yellow tulips is stunning. I wonder why there’s no green or other colors. Because it requires lots of care?
Ah, now I understand why it is an “eyesore”. The tall fence is not a very welcoming sight. The yellow tulips is a great addition.
Well… I love the tuliips! (and that’s about it ;>) Did (I am almost afraid to ask) the country who occupies that embassy have anything to say about the architecture?
Yes. It was designed by David Childs.
The tulips are beautiful.
[…] I probably have too many photos of this most imposing of the embassies in Ottawa. Here is a full view of the American embassy from atop the Peace Tower in the Parliament Buildings. Other views can be found here and here. […]
