Late last summer, the city of Cambridge had an interactive art installation that involved hundreds of knitters gathering their wool into personal creations and covering the Main Street Bridge with ‘yarn bombing’. These scarves and afghans and hats, etc. were later donated and I like to think that those who need to keep warm in this miserable winter now can wrap themselves in a piece of the city’s art.

I think it’s amazing that whoever organized this convinced so many knitters to participate.
I have seen this, too. It really was an amazing sight! And a great community building project.

That’s an interesting art installation. I’ve only ever seen lamposts decorated like this in Sydney.
I wish I had been there to see it. I know the bridge because I pass over when I am driving my wife to Mary Maxim in Paris Ontario. Very interesting project.
Very unusual and interesting. They might have been inspired by Christo who wrapped the Pont Neuf in Paris a few years ago 🙂
This is beautiful! I like that. We had this in our city with trees, they all had knitted jackets on.

Have you posted this before or has this been done elsewhere too? I think it’s soooo funky as an art installation, and I agree it would be nice to think the homeless in need could help themselves to some of the warmth.
Lesley…This post warm my heart both as a knitter and as a student of photography. I just wish I could have been there to see it in person and touch the wool. The colours are magnificent, but that is much of the pleasure of knitting…playing with and mixing colours. Your capture is lovely, and it definitely puts a smile on my face. I am so glad all of the items are being donated to those who are needy.
