In the dark of night, the Sussman’s of Arthur sign lights up the street. Sussman’s is actually four stores under one roof and has been a family business since 1906. Joe Sussman started out by peddling clothes around a 12 mile radius until he decided, in 1915, to open his first store. It has stayed on George St in Arthur, moving to bigger and better premises throughout the years with customers coming from as far away as Toronto, Hamilton and Owen Sound to buy their dress and casual wear for men, women and children. It remains one of the largest independent clothiers in Canada. Indeed, a bright spot in the dark light of retail.
