The first Monday in August is a civic holiday where each municipality may opt to dedicate the day to a founding father.  In Ontario it is generally known as Simcoe Day after the first Lieutenant General of Upper Canada.  In Hamilton, tomorrow will be the inaugural Hamilton Day after George Hamilton, a settler and politician who bought land after the War of 1812 and eventually planned the city.   Hamilton Cemetery is a cultural fount of early settlers.
